Moira was born and raised in Washington D.C. and attended Northwestern University. During her time in Evanston as an undergraduate, she studied History and International Studies and lettered in cross country. Other involvements during those four years included volunteer work with Girls on the Run and serving on the Northwestern Athletic Department’s mentorship committee (at the time, the PURPLE Mentor Program). After completing a teaching fellowship with Urban Prep Academies in Chicago, Moira returned to Northwestern for her Master of Science in Education.

Since graduate school, Moira has been a middle and high school teacher in social studies and math. Along with her time in the classroom, Moira has enjoyed coaching cross country and Scholastic Bowl, and believes that getting to know students for their outside-of-school passions and pursuits – along with academic interests – is essential in developing meaningful, productive relationships. Moira’s most recent role was as a middle grades learning specialist, assisting students with executive functioning skills, collaborating with families to establish helpful tools and supports for their students, and providing reading comprehension, writing, and math enrichment.

Moira has also been an independent academic and high school test prep tutor and writing coach since 2019, and finds joy in helping students achieve their goals, recognize their strengths, and find empowerment in developing best practices for their individual academic needs.

Moira lives in Chicago with her husband and daughter. When she’s not chasing around her one-year old, Moira enjoys playing golf, running on the lakefront, and a healthy dose of reality TV.
