Spring break is a great time to relax, sleep in, and pause thinking about assignments for a few days, but it can also be a great time to reset.
By this point in the semester, a lot of students feel a little off track. Classes can feel harder than you thought they may be, assignments may be missing, or maybe motivation is just low. Thats all normal.
Here are a few simple ways to reset over spring break.
Look Back at the Semester So Far
Before making big changes, take a few minutes to think about how the semester has been going.
Ask yourself a few questions, like: Which classes feel manageable? Where am I struggling the most? When (and where) do I actually get work done?
Clean Up Your Systems
Use a little time during break to reset your systems. This could look like cleaning out your backpack, double checking canvas or google classroom, writing down upcoming assignments and tests, and/or updating your planner.
When things are organized, it is much easier to stay on top of work.
Pick One Small Goal
Coming up with ten new big goals is stressful and unattainable. Pick one small goal to work on after break. For example, maybe it’s: starting homework earlier, going to tutoring once a week, or checking assignments every afternoon.
Small goals are easier to stick with, and once they become routine they become natural habits.
Look Ahead
Take a quick look at the next few weeks.
Are there big exams coming up?
Projects due soon?
Busy weeks with multiple tests?
Knowing what is coming up helps you plan ahead instead of feeling like you need to cram last minute.
A Reset Does Not Have to Be Perfect
Spring break does not have to feel like a time crunch to change everything. Think of it as a chance to pause, get organized, and make a few small adjustments. Sometimes the smallest changes can make the rest of the semester feel a lot more manageable.
